Project – Archive Aberystwyth

Travelling with a camera and a passion for photography started in my late teens, as I was hooked on using black and white film, and mixing the chemicals necessary to develop and print my work.

Aberystwyth, on the mid-Wales coast, is my ‘home town’ and was, until 1980 where I lived and where my photographic passion grew as I explored this delightful seaside town from every angle. My weekend evenings were consumed by taking over the kitchen, taping up the windows with black bin liners, and working through to the early hours mesmerised by the magic of seeing my work come to life.

Over a three year period, from 1977-1979, I amassed a porfolio of over 5,000 negatives, countless contact sheets, and boxes of A4 prints which I’d present at my local camera club. Since 1979, the boxes and folders that make up this collection have travelled with me from home to home, finally finding solace in the attic.

My intention over the last ten years, as the advent of digital photography has exploded, has been to digitise all my archive material, and the time has now arrived. So this page will act as a placeholder where I can showcase selected images.

The images in this slideshow are only a sample of what will become two projects. The first is a recreation of a four metre long panoramic scene composed of over 150 images. The second project will be a portfolio of selected, and enhanced images showing off my town from the late 1970s.
