The Story Behind the Name

It’s taken a long time to prepare, but I will officially launch my new brand on February 1st.

By way of preparation, you may already have seen I changed my social media channels several months ago as it’s always been my ambition to have a naming consistency everywhere. Something I couldn’t achieve with ‘theendoftheline’.

There won’t be a big fanfare celebration, and I’ve selected this date to mark the occasion to avoid any changes over the festive period.

By the way, I hope you have had a lovely time, no matter what you were doing.

For those who have bookmarked ‘theendoftheline’ website, don’t worry, as for now I will keep the current web address as it’s simpler (and cheaper) to do so. That may be something to change over time, and if I do, I’ll keep you posted.

Why the change?

‘theendoftheline’ concept grew out of an idea carved through an informal chat nearly seven years ago, and it has served me well resulting in two Coffee Table books featuring selected photographs.

First, travelling to the end of every Transport for London line resulted in the publication, in 2021, of ‘Memories from The End Of The Line‘ followed by the publication of ‘Return to The End Of The Line‘ in 2023, as I travelled to the furthest points on London’s National Rail Network.

During my journeys, I realised my passion for photography stretched beyond the discovery of London’s outermost reaches. While exploring trains, stations, transport providers, local history, communities and people was rewarding, I was also exposed to London’s rich art culture and I can’t resist sharing the artwork I find. You may have noticed that I sometimes posted images from my family travels too.

The notion of promoting my photographs and making them more widely available grew stronger, and so the search for a brand that better suited my passion for photography began. I think @PhotosByRJT says it quite succinctly and it’s now my address on Instagram, Facebook, Threads, and BlueSky (I’ve ditched X). LinkedIn is unchanged.

I’ve also updated my Photostore on Picfair, which now carries the brand @photosbyrjt. Here you’ll find a growing portfolio of selected images to order as prints or canvas prints. Each portfolio contains twelve images. I’ve now added photos from my second book and some early work from my current project – River Thames Crossings.

What Next?

It’s time to refresh my website, so expect a new look and feel by February 1st. I’d welcome your thoughts on what would inspire you to visit my site to help me shape my future look.

I’ve not been posting blogs as frequently as I once did as I’ve been trying out a different approach – through email posts. These have been directed at subscribers and tend to be focused on specific events or promotions. If you haven’t subscribed, you can do so here. Maybe I need to find the right balance.

2025/26 Promotional Calendar

I’ve printed a limited number of calendars to help promote the launch of my new site. The calendars run for twelve months from February 2025 to January 2026 available for £12.99 (inclusive of p&p) through my online store. If you’d like a preview, here are the images, and this link will take you to a flipbook view.

What about more photographs

River Thames Crossings – this ongoing project follows the same approach as ‘theendoftheline’ but with a twist. I have mapped out all the crossings I can get to using my Freedom Pass. The crossings include road, railway and foot bridges; public and road tunnels; and I’ve included private piers that serve the myriad of passenger ferries along with locks and major tributaries. There are over 100 locations, and I aim to visit each one and wander around the location capturing the environment as I see fit. Let’s see how I get on.

Shades of Aberystwyth – my interest in photography started in my teenage years while living at home. Inspired by my father, a keen photographer in his formative years, I learnt the art of mixing chemicals to create my own developer and fixing solutions to print my black and white photographs. I’d buy 100 feet of 35mm black and white negative film at a time, and slice and cassette the film to use as and when. Over many years, I catalogued each roll of developed film and its print settings. To this day, I still have all the negatives and documentation, and over the next twelve months or so, I intend to digitise the work and share some of the more memorable shots.

I hope you will enjoy them?

Some of my early photography collection, including negatives, print settings, contact sheets and sample photos.

In addition to digitising my work, I’m looking forward to re-creating a particular piece. I will write about this separately but let me whet your appetite by setting the scene: a twelve-foot panoramic view crafted from over 150 images.

That’s all for now, but I’m sure there’s more on the horizon. But for now, here’s wishing you the best for 2025 and see you all soon.
